Welcome back to my Startup Journal — I’m Craig Stephens, founder of City Edition Printing & Design. Today’s milestone made it all feel official: I opened a business bank account under my new DBA, City Edition Design.
💳 Why It Matters:
- Keeps business and personal finances separate
- Makes bookkeeping, taxes, and expenses easier
- Adds credibility when working with clients, vendors, or applying for grants
- Shows you’re serious — even to yourself
🏦 What You’ll Need to Open Yours:
- A copy of your DBA registration
- Your EIN (from the IRS) or your SSN
- Your government-issued ID
- A small initial deposit (depends on the bank)
Some banks also ask for proof of address or a business plan, but many don’t. I went to a local bank where I already had a personal account — and that helped smooth things along.
🤝 Bonus Tip:
Ask the banker about:
- Startup checking with no fees
- Free financial planning tools
- Access to business credit options down the line
Tomorrow, I’ll walk through why I prioritized building a basic website next — and how you can too, even with limited time or tech skills.
